During an emergency situation, you may be instructed to perform different actions by emergency personnel or University administrators. Regardless of the situation, these basic outlines will provide you guidance on how to respond if you get these instructions – all the details may not be in the Orange ALERT or emergency notification messages because of character limits, so it’s a good idea to review the information below.

Shelter in Place
A shelter-in-place directive involves seeking immediate shelter indoors following the announcement of a campus crisis condition.

Lockdown
During a lockdown, entry and exit to a facility should be prohibited until the situation requiring the procedure has been resolved by responding personnel.

Evacuate
An evacuate directive involves exiting particular buildings as a result of a given situation and relocating to evacuation centers for alternate shelter/accommodations to those impacted by an incident.
